The short answer

For testing, Resend Free (3,000 emails a month, at most 100 a day) leaves more room than Postmark’s free Developer plan (100 emails a month). At paid level, Postmark Basic costs $15 a month for 10,000 emails and Resend Pro $20 a month for 50,000. Postmark keeps 45 days of message history by default and Resend 30, so check how far back you investigate failures before choosing on price.

Start with the application workload

Write down monthly recipients, the busiest day, sending domains and the time your team needs to investigate failures. A monthly allowance alone does not answer whether a free plan handles a concentrated campaign or a burst of password resets.

The free tiers serve different volumes

Resend Free lists 3,000 emails per month with a 100-per-day cap. Postmark’s free Developer plan lists 100 emails per month and does not expire. For a development trial, test authentication, templates, a bounce and a webhook retry. Free sending capacity is not evidence of production deliverability.

Compare paid plans rather than brand names

The observed Postmark Basic tier costs $15/month for 10,000 emails, with $1.80 per extra 1,000. Resend Pro costs $20/month for 50,000, with $0.90 per extra 1,000. These subscription and overage figures describe the named tiers; tax and optional add-ons still need the actual checkout.

Logs can outweigh a small price difference

Postmark lists 45-day default retention; Resend lists 30 days. Decide how far back incidents are usually discovered. Check the event types, signed webhook handling and replay process your application needs, then trial that exact path.

Dedicated IPs are a separate decision

Resend’s $30/month dedicated-IP add-on has a Scale and daily-volume eligibility condition. Postmark’s option starts at $50/month for eligible Pro and higher accounts sending at least 300,000 emails/month. Neither price establishes better inbox placement for your workload.

Make the choice observable

Choose the plan that covers your workload and support needs, then run a limited application trial. Record accepted, bounced and delayed events for your own recipient mix. Keep marketing consent and unsubscribe handling separate from operational messages.
