Overview
What Cloudways does
Cloudways runs managed cloud servers for WordPress and other PHP apps. With Flexible you choose the cloud provider and server size, then run as many sites as the server can support. It suits a developer or small agency comfortable with sizing a server, rather than a buyer who wants a fixed per-site plan.
What you pay
The default Flexible view on the pricing page lists Micro at USD 14 a month (1 GB RAM, 25 GB NVMe, 1 TB bandwidth), Small at USD 28, Medium at USD 54 and Large at USD 99. Charges are hourly and invoiced monthly in arrears, and plan changes show on the invoice immediately. Prices exclude applicable taxes.
The card text does not name the provider these prices apply to, and AWS and Google Cloud prices vary by region. There is a 3-day free trial without a credit card.
Limits that change the choice
Each card lists unlimited websites and unlimited visits; the real limits are the server's RAM, CPU, storage and transfer bandwidth. Bandwidth beyond the plan costs USD 0.02 per GB on DigitalOcean, USD 0.12 on AWS and USD 0.10 to 0.17 on Google Cloud. Offsite backup storage costs USD 0.033 per GB per server.
Backups, migration and support
Automated and on-demand backups are included, and a site can be restored with one click. Staging is included. The pricing page says engineers migrate your first website free. Support is 24/7 by live chat and tickets, with paid Advanced and Premium support add-ons for quicker responses.
What the documentation leaves open
Backup frequency and retention are not stated. The FAQ says servers start at USD 11 a month while the cards start at USD 14. The hourly rate of USD 0.0208 would come to USD 14.98 over a 30-day month (0.0208 × 24 × 30), so check how the monthly figure is capped.
When to compare alternatives
If you do not want to size a server, compare Kinsta or Pressable, which sell plans by WordPress installs with stated storage and visit or bandwidth allowances. Hostinger costs less per month for a few small sites (Premium is USD 2.99 a month equivalent) if you can prepay 48 months.
Before you buy
Estimate the RAM and bandwidth your sites need and pick a server one size up from your average load. Ask which provider and region the price applies to, and whether backups are daily. Use the 3-day trial to migrate a copy and try a one-click restore.
